LACK OF
ENDORSEMENTS

RENTON, Oct. 3 The political arm of Planned Parenthood will
endorse James E. McGreevey for governor of New Jersey on Thursday, an unsurprising move on
its face but one that the group's national president linked to the Rev. Jerry Falwell and
Pat Robertson's blaming abortion providers and feminists for the Sept. 11 terrorist
attacks.......
But Gloria Feldt, the president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, said in an interview that the decision to support Mr. McGreevey was made Sept. 14, a day after Mr. Falwell and Mr. Robertson asserted on television that an angry God had allowed the terrorist attacks to succeed because "the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians" and others had tried to "secularize America."
Ms. Feldt, who also heads the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, a political action group, said its members were further angered when Bret D. Schundler, the Republican candidate, who opposes abortion rights, at first declined to repudiate Mr. Falwell and Mr. Robertson, as President Bush had already done.
Ms. Feldt also said that Mr. McGreevey's voting record in the Assembly and the Senate had been excellent and that the choice in the governor's race was between "very good and horrible." (Excerpts.... click title for full article)

Senate Republicans run away from Schundler... It looks like the Senate Republican Majority has decided to abandon the top of the ticket, according to a victory plan posted on their website. The 12-page document detailing how the Republicans will maintain control of the Senate does not mention GOP gubernatorial candidate Bret Schundler, and talks about how individual Republican Senators run ahead of the top of the ticket. A recent Republican State Committee poll shows Schundler trailing McGreevey by 18 points, 53%-35%.
The Senate Republican Majority website isn't the first sign that Senate Republicans are uncomfortable with Schundler. Campaign plans written by GOP consultant David Welch for the 22nd and 38th districts both specifically address the need to run away from Schundler.
Senate Republican Majority, chaired by Sen. John Bennett, is a division of the Republican State Committee.

Christie's
back stab, The Chicage Sun-Times, 8/12/01, by
ROBERT NOVAK SUN-TIMES COLUMNIST
Supporters of Jersey City Republican Mayor Bret Schundler's campaign for New Jersey governor were furious that the White House political office did not publicly deplore the criticism of Schundler by former Gov. Christine Todd Whitman, now Environmental Protection Agency administrator.
''I don't know that his positions are compatible with, on some issues, New Jerseyans,'' Whitman said last month. She mentioned abortion and gun rights.
That may hurt Schundler against
Woodbridge Democratic Mayor Jim McGreevey, but it also damages Whitman with the state's
Republicans. A private poll by the state GOP shows that more voters now disapprove of the
former governor than approve of her.
Webmaster Note: Bret constantly bad-mouthed Christie for at least 7 years! She sent a letter to all JC taxpayers during the summer of 1999 countering Schundler's claim of fewer $$$ in State aid and she's correct. See my recap chart. After awhile, even the state could see, the more $$ you gave Bret, the more he squandered. For Bret, it was all about buying future votes & building his campaign war chest at taxpayers expense.

Sierra Club Endorses McGreevey For Governor
See their web site for an issue by issue analysis: http://sierraactivist.org/article.php?sid=1743
The Sierra Club, the nations oldest and largest conservation organization, with over 24,000 members in the State of New Jersey, is proud to announce its endorsement of Jim McGreevey for Governor.
Jim McGreevey has articulated a strong environmental vision for New Jersey. He will be a leader in protecting our drinking water, cleaning up pollution, stopping sprawl, and revitalizing our cities. Jim McGreevey has put together not only an outstanding environmental record, but has embraced a platform that will protect not only our environment, but our families health as well.
After eight years of environmental programs being cut and weakened, the environment needs a friend in the Statehouse; Jim McGreevey is that friend. Not only will he restore integrity and professionalism to the leadership of DEP, he will advance new programs to help protect our environment. We believe that Jim McGreevey will return New Jersey to the forefront of environmental protection, as it had been for almost 30 years. He will continue the moderate, pro-environmental tradition of Governors Kean, Cahill, Byrne and Florio.
Jim McGreevey is the only candidate in this election that has proposed a comprehensive plan to combat sprawl and bring smart growth to New Jersey. While some candidates may try to pander to the worst fears in people, Jim McGreevey proposes common sense solutions for sprawl and to protect our open spaces. He will ensure that state government promotes smart growth and stops subsidizing inappropriate development. He will work to make sure that municipalities will have the proper tools to help them manage their future growth. We believe that Jim McGreevey will become a national leader in the efforts to combat sprawl and to revitalize our cities.
New Jersey may be the first state in the east to run out of clean drinking water. We believe that Jim McGreevey is the only candidate who has a specific program to protect and clean up our waterways, including upgrading protections of our reservoirs and regulating development in critical watersheds.
Jim McGreevey is the first candidate for statewide office that has been unanimously endorsed by our Political Committee and our Executive Board in anyones recent memory. The Sierra Club sent out questionnaires and interviewed all the major gubernatorial candidates in this years election. For the first time in the states history, there is a clear distinction between the two major party candidates, philosophically and ideologically, when it comes to the environment. As far as the environment is concerned, this election is the most important election that we have faced because of these ideological differences.

New Jersey Legislative Action for Animals
NJLAA, a non-partisan non-profit organization, recently surveyed all of the candidates as
well as compiled voting records of the incumbents (current legislators who are seeking
re-election) on animal-related bills.
The following criteria were used to evaluate each candidate:
** previous voting record (on mainstream bills, such
as prohibiting individuals who have violated the animal
cruelty statutes from
serving as animal control officers as well as on hard-line issues, such as the deer
sniper bill which
allowed for unprecedented killing of NJ deer);
** legislation introduced that either helped or
harmed animals;
** submitted survey responses;
** cosponsorship of the Black Bear Protection
Bill, as well as;
** our relationship with the candidates, member
input, etc.
Through this research we have put together information on the candidates ineach of New
Jersey's 40
Legislative Districts. If you would like to know the status of the candidates in your
district, when it comes to animal issues, please email us with the town and county that
you live in.
In the race for Governor, we regret to report that Bret Schundler will NOT be a
friend of wildlife. He has openly stated his support of the NJ
Division of Fish & Wildlife (F&W), sees no reason to change the make-up of the
Fish & Game Council, supports sport hunting and fur trapping and he told the New
Jersey Federated Sportsmen, he would "love to have someone take me out [hunting], it
would be fun." The progress we have made in fighting F&W will be lost if
Schundler is our next governor.
