NEIGHBORHOODS FIGHTING CITY HALL- aka SCHUNDLER
TO PROTECT THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE
Updated 8/22/01
" I want to be someone who does understand where people are coming from, who people feel they can approach, and where we can talk together, and then where you get people together, and you form a consensus not based on what some lobbyists and other politicians say, but you form a consensus based on what people really believe in. And my experience is that, then, political fights, which other people, other politicians, think are impossible to win, actually are possible to win, when you have the people on your side." See for yourself.....
Dozens of people fought each of these battles against Schundler/ City Hall. That translates into thousands of man-hours that could have been used for charity work or neighborhood projects wasted to fight City Hall. Jersey City is a multi-racial city with hundreds of needs. Recently it was reported that 33.69% of the children in JC live in poverty! We could have used our battle time to volunteer for literacy programs, Hudson Cradle which houses babies with AIDS, the SPCA/Assisi Center, Big Brother/Big Sister programs ect.. The people who fought and continue to fight are neighborhood people who are concerned, not big time developers looking to make big bucks and then bolt.
In my 18 years in JC I've never witnessed nor spent the hundreds of hours fighting an administration like the Schundler one. It's an on-going battle! The past 4 years, his second term, have been particularly vicious. Is this the guy you want running the State? We're thrilled to get him out of JC and worked hard to get his City Council protegees out. See Mayoral Elections for specifics...
They're plenty of other community battles yet
to be written....... like the Hamilton Park battle over the Coliseum, the Essex
Street/Paulus Hook's battle with the HBLRT travelling down their street, the 10 Monitor
Street battle against the PACO charter school, Newport tenants' complaints of shoddy
construction resulting in high heating bills (No Building Construction Inspectors)
etc.... If you've had a neighborhood battle against the Schundler
administration, email me
with the facts.
